Although at times I wondered if we’d make it through our busy day yesterday. Or maybe I wondered if *I* would make it through.  First things first though. Don’t forget, today is the last day for the Vision Forum giveaway. Enter before midnight for your chance to win either The League of Grateful Sons DVD or the Doll Carrier.Â
So we left for the chiroproctor in the morning and knew that we would nto be home until dark. Long outings are fun, exciting and tiring all at the same time. I think the chiro was the highlight of the day. We were all ready to go. John slipped on the ice twice last week, Jessica was having ear and jaw pain, Jason tweeked his leg while wrestling with Jeff, Jill had some gunk in her throat and muck in her eyes, so did Jonah and I. So here we are being adjusted. Since we started regular chiropractic care (5 years ago?) we have never had ear infections, sprains heal faster and colds are put on the run. It’s amazing!
Ear and jaw pain gone.

Mucky eyes, gunk in throat gone.

Green boogers, gone. Checking Donut’s feet to see if his legs are the same length.

Apparently not. Dr. Vega will fix you up.

Joshua getting a adjusted by the backercracker as the kids call him. Actually, they call him Dr. Vega.

Apparently Junie’s neck was “locked up”. Could it have anything to do with the spill she took off the bench the other day? She was trying to walk with one foot on the bench and one foot on the floor. It didn’t work too well.

Gunk in throat and pregnancy related pain GONE!!!

And we all were muck free and had no signs of illness within a few hours. I tell you what, I love chiropractic care!! Dr. Vega is amazing. I intereviewed three different chiropractors before I found Dr. Vega. I think we got lucky with Dr. Charlie in AZ because he was amazing and he was the only one we tried in Surprise. Dr. Vega understands and supports our desire to use chiropractic care as a preventative measure. When we move we may just drive all the way back to Ozark for adjustments every week!!
Then it was on to lunch which was taken at Gem of India again. When we came in the owner said “Oh Welcome. I have your table all set for you. And sure enough he did. Plates and silverware and glasses were already in place. We asked him questions about the Indian language (apparently, there is more than one, oops) and he speaks Punjabi. We asked him how to say good afternoon but I quickly forgot. Hey, that’s like social studies, I’ll mark that down. I didn’t take pictures but the food was great of course.
And to the library where we checked out lots and lots of books. I’ll change my reading list later, after I do a book review on the old ones. But I got books about building ecologically friendly houses. As it turns out the ecological gurus are more concerned with the environment than my health. They were suggesting using that wood that is fabricated using tiny pieces of wood and glue. They do mention the outgassing that occurs with that wood but you know, it kills less trees. Ha ha!! I had to laugh. Still there is good stuff in there so I’ll pick out what I want and leave the rest.
Jonah playing blocks.

Junie and the giraffe. I have yet to see if the giraffe loses his scarves in summer.

Lina and a book.

And we did hit Mama Jean’s, Joann’s and even Mardel. I bought a rather cool weather graph thing. We had one of these long ago but it was not so fun to use in Phoenix because well…the weather was always the same. You can only check the sunny box so many times before the novelty wears off. Besides it got smooshed when we moved into the big house in Surprise.
That is it I think. I still need to work on a list fo Jill’s supplements. I’m on that tonight.

I’m not sure if you’ve talked about this or not (if so I missed it) but I was wondering where you find out about supplements, vitamins and such. I am VERY interested in tossing the antibiotics and going a more natural route. I’m not sure where to even start. Do you have a few websites you would recommend for those just learning? Thank You!

Really?? Gunk in sinuses GONE? I’m feeling gunky just now… I’ve taking TON of Vit. C today… and Echinacea… hoping those help some.
Actually — the cause of THIS is because I’ve prayed that I’ll be sit on Saturday… I don’t want to do the In-Law Christmas Circus thing. HA!! But the Chiropractor — you think that would help my sinus fullness feeling?
I was about the squirt salt water up my nose with a rubber hose… but I’d rather go to the Chiropractor, I think.
How do you afford once a week 12 people Chiro visits? YIKES!!

Yep, chiro will help. All the stuff will drain out if the passageway is cleared. Then again if being sick will serve you well then you might wait till the Monday after the In law thing.
Our chiro offers a family plan. We pay a flat rate. Oh, an I need to edit. We go every other week.

I’ve never known of kids going to a chiropractor before reading your blog. I’ve always wanted to because I broke my tailbone when I was 4 and have had back problems ever since. I think a good adjusting is LONG overdue. I wonder if that’s covered under our preventative care… Worth a look.

Chelsea, alot can be learned by googling something like “ear infection natural”. Then a good herb basics book will help you and just asking around. Find a natural health board and start asking questions.
Crystal, alot of insurances now cover chiropractic care.

Hey Katie
We have been going to another chiro in Springfield and while he is very nice, he uses the activator which doesn’t seem to be helping me and my headaches at all. Also he has no family plan and it’s gotten expensive! Does Dr. Vega have a website? A friend of mine sees him too and loves him. Glad to see you are enjoying the MIssouri weather. We’re excited to hear about Jodi’s arrival, my friend is using the same midwife (Brenda?) that you are. Good luck and Merry Christmas! Oops. I mean Merry THATEOTY.

We’ve been seeing a chiropractor for years, and recently switched to a chiropractic neurologist, and it has made a huge difference in my chronics headaches and dizziness that just had never gotten under control until recently.
My prior chiro saw me through several pregnancies and it helped immensely!
So glad you found a really good one!
We’ve been paying a monthly family plan rate as well. We’d go broke if they charged for each individual adjustment- and we only have half the children you do…
So excited that you’re getting so close to having a baby!
Enjoy them-
ali

Amanda, no website but if you google his name and Ozark it comes right up with his number. Tell them Katie told you they have a family plan. I specifically asked the office manager if I could tell people that because I’ve met so many who like the idea of taking the kids to the chiro but it is so cost prohibitive. The three other chiros I called here in Ozark each said that they HAD to charge me $35/person. I said “Times 13? Do you know how much money that is?” Two of them said “Well, my fee is so low already that I just can’t go any lower than that.” Oh I see. Money is more important than people. Thankyouverymuch.
And the activator method is with that little clicker thing right? You may be surprised by how “heavy handed” Dr. Vega seems.

Katie~
We have a few chiros here in town…how would I know which is a good one? Is there a particular method that is best? Are the good ones also “natural” types? I just don’t even know where to begin…any specific questions to ask, other than “Do you have a family plan???”

Hi Katie…
I used to work for a Chiropractor before I got married. We just love him. All my kids have been going almost since birth! We see him about every other week now too. I totally agree about how incredible it is for all of us.
My Chiro has a Family Plan as well… That is the only way to go!
Have a great day!
Love,
Chas

OK Katie — thanks for answering my question. I’ve sent an e-mail to our Chiro Providor here in Town. We have gone to help relieve symptoms in the past — but I’d love to use him for healthy maintenance, primary care, and preventative health care.
I’m thinking if had has a Family Plan — we could pay it out of our Tax Free Medical Savings Plan through DH’s work.
Thanks again Katie!

Katie,
I’d be very interested in hearing what you are looking for when you interview chiropractors. I went to one 18 years ago and was vastly poorer as a result…and left with the impression that I was being had. On the other hand, I’ve had friends who’ve gone and had such things as carpal tunnel issues dissappear. Would you please share both your list of questions and what you’re looking for?
Thanks,
Kelly
